Tuning Your Team
After hiring process was done, as a leader, you need to coach your team members and build discipline.
Just like diamond, effort to found it is hard. We need mining process that may be draining our patience. We need foresight to distinguish it from other rocks. After all, the process is not complete. Grainy diamond must be crafted to get the best shaped like what we want.
After you success to hire someone to be your team member, make sure, to blend her/him in to your team culture. Invite her/him to equating rhythm with the team. Lucky you, if your team has best practice on boarding. But if not, create it as soon as possible. Your team needs it. The key of every team success is collaboration, and every collaboration needs rules. I call it “language”. Like a conversation, we need opening ceremony, for a collaboration, we need on boarding session. This is a part of your team language system.
At my product team, we have a product design language system. A system that provides mechanism to build product with dynamic collaboration. A repeatable and scalable way, minimize design debt, easy to maintain and simple to upgrade. A good guideline to structuring collective improvements. It makes cohesive experience at the same page. An unified platform for research design pattern, UX design pattern, UI design pattern, and testing design pattern.
As a team leader, you must coach (not dictate) your team to follow “the wave”. That wave must be dynamic, improved by all team members. Learn from their experience while product development process. After that, build discipline among your team.
